Tip Jar to support the podcast during the lockdown: https://plantyourself.com/gift

Hey, Howard Jacobson here with Plant Yourself. My family and I were visited South Africa and found ourselves unable to leave, first due to South African Airways suspending all flights until the end of May, and then the South African government declaring a 21-day (minumum) lockdown.

So here we are, far away from home, with spotty internet, wondering what will happen.

In the meantime, I did bring my podcasting gear, and have been posting daily short episodes that I hope will be helpful to you during this intense time.

Here are the most recent ones:

Straight talk on Covid-19 with Michael Rothberg, MD: PYP 379

Michael B. Rothberg, M.D., M.P.H. is the Vice Chair for Research in the Medicine Institute of the Cleveland Clinic and Director of the Center for Value-Based Care Research.

He joined me on Skype to talk about the current state of knowledge about Covid-19, and what we can and should do as individuals and a society to save as many lives as possible.

You and What Army?: PYP 380

A special Covid-19 Lockdown Edition of the Plant Yourself Podcast. Halfway through I realized I was using the wrong mic. If that's the worst thing that happens today, cool!

Now is not the time to indulge in crappy food choices, even though we may be stressed and cooped up and grieving.

We have an army inside us – our immune system – that does its best to keep us safe. Now's the time to feed it well.

We have an opportunity to find new sources of dopamine, of joy, of connection.

What are you doing to get your daily dopamine fix?

Cultivating Emotional Herd Immunity: PYP 381

Those of us who have survived difficult times – physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual – have a gift for the rest of society: the knowledge that we can handle what seems unmanageable, and grow from what seems diabolical.

Let's share those gifts now, to counter all the fear and panic and despair out there.

The Illusion and Reality of Control: PYP 382

In a world in which we have virtually no control, how do we assert control in a useful way?

What is Essential: PYP 383

In these strange times, we have an opportunity to remember what is essential, and what is fluff. Who are we really, and how can we carry that realization forward once we attain a new equilibrium?

Your Turn

What would you like me to talk about? What questions do you have? Challenges? Are there any guided meditations or exercises that would be helpful?

Let me know...

Warmly
Howard
