Lewis Bertus was following medical best practices as a physician's assistant when his wife's illness forced him to take a hard look at the limitations of the healthcare industry.
The drugs weren't helping her type 2 diabetes, no matter how much her doctors insisted that the pharma route was the only responsible one.
So Lewis “did his own research,” which can go in all sorts of directions, some of them pretty horrifying.
Fortunately, with his grounding in medicine and his deep spiritual faith, he struck gold.
Workshop: Are you struggling to integrate your emotions and your work life following the US presidential election?
Many of us woke up sad, shocked, and scared on Wednesday morning. We saw the United States say yes to racism, misogyny, division, and totalitarianism, and no to what’s perhaps our last chance to give our children a livable planet.
Many of us have swung between hope and despair, empathy and rage, self-indulgence and self-care.
Many of us have ranted, consoled, and wondered what more we could have done. Some have second-guessed the politicians and the media, apportioned blame, and somehow sought the strength to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
And we still have to go work. To earn a living. To contribute to the economy. And, if we’re fortunate, we’ve chosen or stumbled upon work that’s more or less aligned with values.
So what do we do now?
Back to business as usual, to whatever extent our privilege allows that?
Give up and wrap ourselves in analgesic apathy?
Or some other third way, that harnesses both our love and our rage, our hope and our despair, our clarity about what is coming and our vision for what could be instead?
On Wednesday, November 13, at 11am US Eastern Time, you’re invited to participate in a free online workshop called, “What Now?”
It’s for professionals who still hear a calling to bring their best selves to work for the greater good, and could use a little space and support to process everything that’s in their hearts and minds.
