Executive Coaching Enrollment Interview

Coaching enrollment interview
with Howie Jacobson, PhD

So you're looking for a coach? I'm honored that you're considering me. If you've read my book, You Can Change Other People, you may have a sense of my style, philosophy, skills, experiences, and approach.

Let me share a little more about myself and how I work, and if you're still interested when I'm done, you can sign up for a 28-minute enrollment interview to determine if we're a good fit.

My style is informal, direct, and no-nonsense. My goal is to get you the results you want.

My philosophy is that we're all here to grow into the most authentic, joyful, and generous versions of ourselves. In nature, every successful species gives back to its environment more than it takes. That's what we're here to learn, and manifest. I work with you to overcome the obstacles to that natural development: dysfunctional habits of action and speech; old perceptions that distort current reality; underdeveloped capabilities.

My coaching skills include deep mastery over a reliable process (the "Four Steps" we write about in You CAN Change Other People, the ability to discern underlying patterns, a gift for finding the easiest route to progress and mastery, and a sense of humor that honors the seriousness of your journey while keeping things enjoyable and light.

My experiences are varied. I spent 10 years as an online marketing strategist (I'm the author of Google AdWords For Dummies), so I can provide insight and feedback on any efforts to grow revenue and gain reliable and actionable market insight. I'm also the author of five books on health and wellness, so I always return to the body as the fundamental source of change. If you've been trying to change, and have focused entirely on your thoughts and feelings, you'll be amazed at how quickly things can shift when you engage your physiology.

My approach is to work with you to identify an energizing outcome. With that outcome as context, I conduct 360 interviews with all the stakeholders you identify. These can be managers, colleagues, employees, vendors, friends, and family members.. After meeting with each of them, I create and share with you an anonymized report that includes your greatest strengths, areas in which others see opportunities for you to grow, and one to three specific areas of focus.

We then work together for the next 12 months in the service of that outcome. We don't dwell on the past, and we don't seek insight for its own sake. Instead, each coaching session generates a hypothesis that you're going to test in your world. You do the work, experiment by experiment, discovery by discovery, and we debrief them during our time together. There's no such thing as failure as long as you're collecting data and learning from it.

And the energizing outcome is always front and center as the GPS destination, so we stay focused and ignore bright shiny distractions and unimportant urgencies.
